Increasing the participation of Africans in global and competent STEM research.

We are a nonprofit organization that seeks to increase the overall participation of Africans in globally competent research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

I am Frank Obeng Addae from Ghana. I am a Ph.D. student at Harvard University, studying Biological Sciences in Public Health with a specialization in Immunology and Infectious Diseases. I first heard about Afrisnet in 2020 when I attended their “Career Opportunities in Pharmacology” webinar. I participated in this event due to my burning desire for therapeutics and drug discovery in general. I learned a lot from the webinar, and so, right after the webinar, I emailed Dr. Daniel Schwab, who was the then chair of the Afrisnet Education Committee. After telling him a little about my background and future plans, he was impressed and decided to add me to Afrisnet and mentor me to achieve my goals. Daniel and the Afrisnet team guided me to organize my CV into a competitive one and provided numerous opportunities to help me grow professionally. When it was time to apply for graduate studies abroad in 2021, my Afrisnet mentor, Dr. Schwab, provided me with all the assistance and mentorship I needed. The materials he shared with me were beneficial and significantly contributed to my success in the application. I would like to thank Dr. Schwab and the entire Afrisnet team for their excellent assistance. I am now volunteering for them, and I highly encourage prospective graduate students from Africa to register to become members of this organization to benefit from our numerous life-changing opportunities.
