Recent Research From South Africa is Redefining Our Timeline of Human Evolution

Scientists in Southern Africa believe that the surrounding area has had a big contribution to human evolution. The landscape had been dry and hot for some time now so other scientists have had their doubts about the area having an impact on evolution. There has not been any proof of this but they have found a cave with tools and crystals that date back to 105,000 years ago. After examining the rocks near the cave, the scientists had evidence there was an abundance of water during the time when the tools were made.

Researchers wanted to better understand the differences in the dry plains of today versus the wet landscape of the past. They looked at the variation of rainfall. In the past, the Indian Ocean was more temperate and therefore would cause more rainfall than it does now. Though this is a start in proving that Southern Africa had a key in human evolution, there is still more work and findings that need to take place.
